What this document covers

This policy explains what data the Bestunis.com website collects, why it is needed and how you can manage it. It applies to everything under the bestunis.com domain: the university guide, people pages, discussions, reviews and the newsletter.

What we collect

Account: your name, email address and a password stored only as a hash. We do not see the password itself.

Content you publish: reviews, discussion threads and replies, the rating you give a university and, if you choose to add it, the country you write from. Your name is shown next to what you post.

Newsletter: the email address and the language you chose when subscribing.

Technical data: the hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, requested pages) for a limited time to keep the site secure and running.

Cookies and local storage

We use three things in your browser: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, a cookie with your interface language, and a local storage entry with your light or dark theme. There are no advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.

Why we need it

To run your account and show your reviews and messages to other readers; to send the newsletter you asked for; to protect the site from abuse; and to fix errors. We do not sell data and do not use it for advertising.

Who has access

Data is stored with our infrastructure providers: Vercel (hosting) and Neon (database). They process data on our behalf under their own security commitments. Nobody else receives your data unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Account data and your content stay for as long as the account exists. The newsletter address stays until you unsubscribe. Server logs are kept by the provider for a limited period and then deleted.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, correct it, delete your account together with its content, or unsubscribe from the newsletter. Write to privacy@bestunis.com from the address linked to your account; we answer within 30 days.

Changes

When the policy changes, the date at the top of this page is updated. Material changes are announced in the newsletter.
